During a visit to Rotterdam last January, Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Mayor of Rotterdam Ahmed Aboutaleb dropped in to De Gelukkige Stad [The Happy City] Innovation Lab. This interfaculty honours course takes place every Wednesday evening in the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam. Prime Minister Rutte stopped to chat to a few students on subjects such as the target groups they are designing urban interventions for (mothers using cargo bikes to transport their children, non-western immigrant entrepreneurs, internet courses for senior citizens). After this, the founders of the course, Robbert Jan en Stella, presented the visitors with a copy of the course reader and explained their vision. The Prime Minster and the mayor returned later to talk further and to take a quick peek at that evenings lecture.

Come down to the Kenniscafé

Want to know more about the course? Everyone is welcome to visit De Gelukkige Stad's Kenniscafé [Knowledge Café] on Thursday 24 March from 16:00 to 20:00. This is an informal session over drinks during which the course lecturers talk a bit about about the past year, and four groups of students present their projects for increasing collective happiness in the city. You can find us in the Venture Café in the Groot Handelsgebouw: go via Entrance A to the fourth floor and turn right.
